Muflehun Board Members Give Hill Briefing on Confronting Anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial

Muflehun board members Imam Mohamed Magid and Suhail Khan participated in a briefing organized by Congressman Keith Ellison on Confronting Anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial on September 22, 2010. Hannah Rosenthal, United States State Department Special Envoy on Anti-Semitism also spoke at the briefing, along with several others.

The session included reporting on the trip that American imams took to Auschwitz and Dachau in August 2010, along with representatives from the US State department. The trip was funded by the Konrad Adenaur Foundation.

Imam Magid highlighted the religious importance of not bearing false testimony by denying the Holocaust.

“In Islamic teaching there is something called being witness. They call the Muslim ummah the ummah of “shehada”, to bear witness. And one of the most dangerous things in Islamic teaching is to have false testimony.

When a person denies the Holocaust he bears false testimony. It is called in Arabic “shahadat az- zoor” to bear false testimony in something that is real- you see the evidence, you see the ashes of people, you see the pictures of people, you walk on the trail, you see the gas chamber. It is beyond imagination if somebody were to deny something like that. ”
